St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated as a traditional feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

It is celebrated on March 17th because that marks the day of St. Patrick’s death. St. Patrick is a patron saint of Ireland who is known for bringing Christianity to its people. He used a native Irish clover, the shamrock, to explain the Holy Trinity.

Fun Facts:

  • The first St. Patrick’s Day parade was in the 1760s in New York
  • The color associated with the day used to be blue (some still wear blue instead of green)
